I don’t usually go to Cafe’s in East Auckland because I always feel like CBD has a lot more options. However, as my mum wanted us all to have some family time together, I dragged her and my brother to Saint Heliers Bay Cafe & Bistro, which is right by the water front. It must be pretty obvious by now but cafe’s are probably one of my favourite places to visit no matter the occasion. The first thing I noticed was how crowded this place was – even for a Tuesday morning, most of the tables were already full and the place was bustling with people.
I adore how this place is right by the water front because the views are absolutely stunning. I can definitely imagine myself spending a lot of time here on a sunny day, with a good book and coffee in hand. It was a shame that it was such a cloudy day but nonetheless, the view was still pretty good.
My brother and I both opted for the Wagyu Beef Burger ($26) while my mum had the scone. The burgers may look small but they were very filling (I didn’t even need to eat anything till dinner time). They’re not the most amazing burgers I’ve ever had but were still pretty decent.
The service was fantastic here. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated promptly. The waiter was very friendly and even offered to help us decide what to order. Our food also came very quickly! Minimal waiting time is always a plus for me.
Of course, amazing decor is always a win right? Look at how nice their lights are contrasted with that wall. I felt so relaxed as soon as I walked in. The ambiance is surreal.
Had your typical cafe food from delicious sandwiches to fluffy donuts (I am ALWAYS tempted to buy donuts). I was surprised that they stocked so many desserts from Milse – looks like I won’t need to go all the way to Britomart to get my dessert fix from now on.
Overall, I loved my experience here. This would be the perfect place to come in summer with a group of friends for brunch before spending your day at the beach! I would recommend coming early on a weekday to ensure you get a nice table!
